Part One - Exercise 1.2 Through a digital lens
Man Ray and Dora Maar
Man Ray was an American visual artist working the majority of his career in France.
He was a producer of work across many areas and though considered himself a painter was best know as an art and fashion photographer. His work included solarised and isomorphic images of Lee Miller.
I am particularly drawn to his multiple exposures of Alice Prin, better known as Kiki de Montparnasse, and Dora Maar (arguable a one time muse of Picasso).
You see the
subject looking through a window, is she outside looking in or is she inside
looking out?
Her eyes are
closed, is because she doesn’t like what she is seeing? The window glass
appears to have cracks, is perhaps that the implication of damage, a troubled
mind perhaps
The second image appears to be a
negative of the subject and is also flipped on its vertical so that the higher
hands are in the middle of the image and the lower hands both on the outside.
The negative image of the subjects is made to appear taller, perhaps giving the
impression of an older relative sharing the pain or perhaps attempting to give
comfort to the subject.
The negative image of the subject has been layered so that the real subject appears behind, this can been seen by the negative hand appearing in front of the real hand, yet you can see the subject's real hands pushed against the glass.
There also appears to be a textured layer added, perhaps also what I thought to be broken glass is in fact made to look like folds in a photograph.
The image certainly intrigued me and the idea of layering with a negative image of the subject is very thought provoking in the same way it is very creative.

Osinyn Pavel - River in Winter Forest
By chance with the recent wintry weather I had been for a walk in the forests where I live and hand already taken the following image
Admittedly I've swapped landscape to portrait but the process and activity is the same and it has taught me some interesting CS skills. Result as below:
