Preliminary Exercise

We are asked:

• Construct a grid or compile a contact sheet of all your images.
• Write a short reflective piece in your learning log about this exercise.

I am working from home this week so took a short period of time to capture digital imagery I encountered during part of my day:

What have you learned from this exercise?
If you take time to think about it digital imagery is so ingrained in our lives either directly or indirectly

Has it alarmed you?
It hasn't alarmed me but it was a good exercise to have a think about how images are part of our lives every day

Has it confirmed any preconceptions?
I think it has as I am aware of imagery. It has confirmed that digital imagery has progressed so much

What do most of the images you encountered show?
That we are so flooded by images that we almost become numb of it. Perhaps being on a desert island would relieve the brain of these or perhaps would it appeal at the lack of it, a craving?

Does this tell you anything about the environment you live in?
It tells me / it reminds me that imagery can become powerful because of its strong presence. This can be used to manipulate us in many ways - advertising, compassion, day  to day communications, entertainment etc. The list is endless. Perhaps someone who can master this could become very powerful...I expect some already are e.g. newspapers, magazines etc
